A blues based project with a New Orleans groove & a Colorado address.
My musical heart has always leaned toward funky, bluesy, soul oriented melody and grooves. Whenever I'm immersed into that kind of music, directly (by getting to play it) or indirectly (by hearing someone else playing it), I'm transported to that "world" we all long to be in...that world where everything flows and feels as it should always feel.
And I'd be re-missed if I didn't mention a place that really contributed to helping me find that "world"... New Orleans. After several pilgrimages to the Crescent City over the past 3 years, my vision for Johnny & The Mongrels became clear and I knew it was time to make it a reality.
So with a plan in mind and songs that needed life, I began to search for the right partners in crime to pull this project off.
Stay tuned for more news of the Johnny & The Mongrels project as we bring you behind the scene footage in the recording studio and eventually excerpts of our live shows.
P.S. Here's a sneak peak of a demo of one of the songs from the upcoming debut album!
It's been affectionately labeled as a “Swamp Blues” project.
After many years of searching and networking... locally and remotely, I've thankfully found the key players and direction to make the project of my dreams come true. What are the details of this dream project you ask? Well allow me to explain!
First let me introduce the key members of Johnny & The Mongrels.
- Jeff Mere on Guitar & Vocals; Born and raised in Louisiana, Jeff was tailor made for this project with his decades of experience playing professionally in the Bayou, which he thankfully brought to Colorado. Coupled with his vocal contributions, he's a soulful, creative force to be reckoned with.
- Jeff Bostic on Bass Guitar, Keys & Vocals; The funk influenced bass playing and blues laden vocals that Jeff brings to this project are essential to fostering my vision of church-like vocal harmonies and steamy swamp grooves to life. His vast experience playing the blues and being a part of the northern Colorado music scene, are priceless assets to the Mongrels project.
