An example of one of the most valued partnerships I've gratefully been able to develop over the years, would be with a dynamic venue in my area called The Boot Grill.
And from the other perspective, the artist MUST understand that the venue entrusts the artist to help create business for the venue. You are hired to make the venue MONEY!! Losing focus on this aspect is highly detrimental to the relationship ever growing to even bigger and better opportunities for the artist down the road. At that venue or any other for that matter.
So my advice to artists wanting to book shows at highly desired venues like The Boot Grill (wherever you live), is to think how the venue is thinking about the process of booking artists. What's their goal in having you play there? What would I want an artist to understand about me and my venue in order to make me feel 100% confident in that artist? If you can put yourself in the venue's shoes and create a killer win-win situation between you and the venue, you'll be exponentially ahead of the majority of artists who can't look beyond their own needs and wants.....wondering why they can't get a good paying gig anywhere.
